About the event
Named after the dark bitter-sweet fruit, Cassis finished recording their debut album in late 2020. Aptly titled “Soul-Sterious”, it contains a collection of songs in both English and French that draw from life, love and longing. The music is soul searching with grungy jazz sparks, deep beats and edgy psych-rock keys and guitars. The band formed in 2014 with Véronique Ramén (vocals) and Jon Edwards (guitar) and grew from acoustic to electric with the addition of Warren Hall (drums), Sebastian Davidson (upright and electric bass) and Tim “Hot” Newhouse (keys and saxophone). After a series of gigs in Perth beginning in January 2021, the band launches their debut album (on vinyl) at Lyric’s Underground, Maylands, on Friday 25 June.
