About the Event
On the 10th of December 2020 at Lyric's Underground at 8pm (doors at 7pm) three divas deliver a fun night of jazz favourites. Perth jazz diva Leah Guelfi, British-Australian soprano and jazz singer Daniella Sicari and Australian mezzo soprano Caitlin Cassidy are joined by a hot band including Ben Matthews (piano), Karl Brown (drums) and Djuna Lee (bass). This concert was born of three singer friends who met at WAAPA studying in the Classical Voice Department, though all three had a concurrent love for jazz singing. The three singers have since performed in New York, London, Manchester, interstate and locally on concert stages, jazz and cabaret clubs, Fringe festivals and opera houses. After completing her Bachelor and Post Graduate Diploma in classical music and taking jazz vocal workshop units with Libby Hammer and Wendy Matthews, Caitlin wrote her masters and created a show called Diva Bites the Dust which aimed to combine the classical vocal recital with performance elements of the cabaret performance platform. As well as performing in several operas, Caitlin has created two cabaret shows for Perth Fringe World called Disgraceful Cougars and Disgraceful Cougars: Bound and Gagged with drag chanteuse Cougar Morrison. Leah loves to explore different styles, especially jazz. Leah’s talent and style has seen her fronting the Oz Big Band, one of Perth’s favourite swing bands, since 2012. She has performed with them at the annual Melbourne Lindy Exchange on numerous occasions and performs regularly around Perth, including venues such as the Ellington Jazz Club and the Mustang Bar. Leah also performs regularly with the Metro Big Band and Tim Newhouse’s band Synken and has made special guest appearances with the Perth Cabaret Collective. In 2016 Sicari started a seven piece trad jazz band in the UK called ‘The Easy Rollers’. In the last three years Sicari has devised a cabaret style theatre show presented by the band for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. It focuses on the Prohibition Era and start of The Swing Era, taking the audience on a musical and theatrical journey through this period, highlighting famous music, artists and culture of the time. They have also appeared at Manchester Jazz Festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Buxton International Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, Marsden Jazz Festival and more. The ladies find themselves all back in Perth, and lucky Perth, as they are some singers to watch out for. Musically prodigious, with voices to die for and with great senses of humour these ladies are sure to delight!
